The location can mean #1 street or neighborhood #2 shopping and transportation #3 how well your neighbors keep their home and yards #4 Noise from nearby airport or factory or highway. #5 crime rate #6 Schools and parks. Plus several other things. Sometimes being in a particular zip code has status (like 90210). Sometimes being on the "wrong side of the tracks" is a big negative. That neighborhood in New York State that was involved in the Love Canal scandal was because it was located on top of a chemical dump. Location is the hardest thing to change about your home. A lot about the location may be impossible to change. So it is the one thing you need to pay more attention to than anything else.

I got this answer from a real estate agent when I went looking for a farm several years ago and kept having issues with the houses I looked at…

You can always remodel the houses, but it’s VERY expensive and VERY difficult to remodel your location! You can’t make hills out of flat land, you can’t make creeks where there are none, and it takes decades to make a stand of woods out of a field…. unless you are very, very rich.

If you find a *location* you like, the house can always be fixed to suit your taste.
